Spectra™ is a visual stimulation device designed for home use as an adjunct to neurotherapy. The device contains three resident programs, each designed to facilitate treatment of specific brainwave conditions associated with mood disorders, emotional trauma, cognitive inefficiency and poor stress tolerance.

SPECTRA^TM

Spectra^TM is a visual stimulation device designed for home use as an adjunct to neurotherapy. The device contains three resident programs, each designed to facilitate treatment of specific brainwave conditions. Two clear LEDs mounted in the frame provide light simulation efficient for affective disorders. The LED duty cycle (time the lights remain on with each pulse) has been elongated to provide maximum stimulation efficiency with minimal discomfort.

The device is turned on with the switch mounted on the end of the right stem. Pushing the switch will activate each of the programs in succession. Push the switch once for Spectrasweep^TM; press twice for Spectralert^TM; press three times for Spectraserene^TM.

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BE SEATED WHEN USING THE SPECTRASWEEP^TM OR THE SPECTRALERT^TM PROGRAMS. The Spectraserene^TM program can be used when moving about your house. The programs are most effective when used for brief periods of time, usually about five minutes, although Spectraserene^TM can be used effectively for longer periods of time.

 

SPECTRASWEEP^TM

Spectrasweep^TM is the first program that is accessed by pressing the switch one time. This program is used to help sustain the gains of neurotherapy that focused on balancing the frontal regions of the brain. Your therapist may also use this program to help with emotional regulation.

Instructions for use: WHILE SEATED, press the switch once to access the Spectrasweep^TM program. You may use this program with eyes open or eyes closed.

Spectrasweep^TM can be useful for reducing fretting and worry, and for reducing distressing thoughts and fears. Start Spectrasweep^TM, wait about one minute, and then focus your attention on the distressing thoughts associated with your anxiety. You will find that you will have difficulty keeping the thoughts in mind and this will be associated with feeling less distraught.

Frontal balancing of brainwave amplitudes is also improved with Spectrasweep^TM. Your therapist will instruct you on the proper use of Spectrasweep^TM for this purpose.

For general relaxation, find a place where you can lie down, relax and NOT BE DISTURBED. Start the Spectrasweep^TM, close your eyes and observe the vivid lights through your closed eyelids.  Listening to classical music or one of the Soundhealth Products harmonics, such as Mozart^TM  or Serene^TM, at the same time can contribute to the relaxing effect of Spectrasweep^TM.

 

SPECTRALERT^TM

This program is used for enhancing cognitive efficiency. Typically it is used while reading, writing or other cognitive activity. Spectralert^TM is designed to suppress slow frequency brainwave amplitude and to increase the dominant frequency in the Alpha brainwave range (8 to 12 cycles per second). These features help with improving cognitive efficiency for children and adults, and are part of many “Brainbrightening” programs found helpful for maintaining good mental functioning in elderly clients. The extended duty cycle of the LEDs in the Spectra^TM programs provide stimulation in the effective frequency range with minimal discomfort to the user.

Instructions for use: WHILE SEATED turn on the Spectralert^TM program by pushing the control switch two times. A pulsing light will be seen in each eyepiece. The pulsing lights will be the same in both lenses. Simply read or perform some other activity such as writing, calculations, puzzles, etc. while looking through the lighted lenses of the Spectra^TM glasses.

NOTE: Some clients need corrective lenses to be able to read with the Spectra^TM  glasses. Your Optician can insert standard reading magnification corrective lenses for $50 to $70. More complex corrective prescriptions will be more costly.

 

SPECTRASERENE^TM

This program is used to help improve mood state. Many people find benefit from light boxes to help with seasonal affective mood problems.  Spectraserene^TM can be used while you are engaged in other activities. Research has shown that the lights are most effective when used early in the morning. Many clients put the glasses on as soon as they get out of bed in the morning and wear them until they leave the house.  However, Spectraserene^TM can be used at any time throughout the day with benefit.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

Persons subject to any form of seizures or epilepsy, using a pacemaker, or suffering from cardiac arrhythmia or other heart disorder, should not use the Spectralert^TM or the Spectrasweep^TM programs without Medical Supervision. Photosensitive seizure disorders are rare but sensitivity can be increased if you are currently taking stimulant or psychotropic medications, alcohol or non-prescription mind altering drugs. The low intensity lights used in the Spectra^TM are effective for inducing mental quiet. However, if you feel uncomfortable or are bothered by the flashing lights, stop the session and consult with the Health Care Provider who prescribed the Spectra^TM before further use.

People with eye problems or sensitivities should consult with their ophthalmologist prior to using Spectra^TM.   

For those who want to use Spectra^TM while reading but require corrective lenses, your Optician can replace the clear lenses with basic corrective magnification lenses for about $50 to $70. More complex corrective prescriptions are more costly.

Spectra^TM is powered with two 3 volt, lithium CR2032 batteries located in the compartment at the end of the right stem of the glass frame. To change the battery, remove the two Phillips head screws on the interior side of the compartment. Remove the plate and the batteries. Replace with both positive sides of the batteries facing the interior of the glass frames. The plate is marked with a + symbol to show polarity. The batteries are rated for about 450 five-minute uses of the Spectralert^TM  or the Spectrasweep^TM programs.
